I know you look up into the night sky too and think, damn, what if I had gone to Space Camp? An app can't send you on the Vomit Comet, but it CAN alert you when to look up at Really Cool Stuff passing just overhead. RunaR's ISS Detector alerts your phone whenever the International Space Station and Iridium flares are visible. Tell me that isn't the coolest app idea you've ever heard. Go on, tell me (nerd).
The International Space Station is visible to the naked eye, but only for precious fleeting seconds at a time - you've got to know when and where to look. The app takes care of that for you, proffering a constantly updated calendar with upcoming astral events so that you can plan that middle-of-nowhere camping trip accordingly. It'll even check the weather conditions, since clear skies are most conducive to nighttime geekery.
Your location and timezone are automatically detected - no manual adjustments necessary. If you're a big nerd, you can port the upcoming events into your calendar app; if you're an even bigger nerd, you can post about them on your social media of choice.
If you shell out for the extensions, you can also detect and be alerted of the positions of radio amateur satellites, comets and planets, and famous objects like Hubble, X-37B, Fitsat, and Tiangong.
My inner dweeb is beyond excited for her first upcoming sighting using RunaR's ISS Detector.
Fix for comet magnitude calculations.
